As we remember the Reformation era battle cry, "Sola Fide!" we are confronted by the painfully obvious fact that lots of strange things are believed about Faith in our day. We use David's amazing confession in Psalm 31 as a framework for talking about faith, and distinguishing it from counterfeits.

A mighty angel puts the world under his feet and hands John a book to eat. Most interpreters today see this as a break in the action, a mini Sabbath if you will. One group, though, sees the beginning of Western civilization, in the Protestant Reformation. Regardless, the chapter is filled with symbols and concepts that are not explained, and therefore remain mysterious. There is, however, rich encouragement here for the Christian who, like John, may need to catch his or her breath in the middle...

Survey of Options in Revelation - Chapter 8 - Begin Trumpet Judgments This message is broken up into two parts. In the first half we look at the image of the angel and the bowl of incense mixed with the prayers of the saints. In the second part, Preterism and Historicism come out swinging with reasonable interpretations of the first four trumpets.

In this series, we will look at four conservative, Bible-believing options in our approach to the book of Revelation. Those are Dispensationalism, Preterism, Historicism, and Idealism. This won't be a verse-by-verse study, but more on an introductory survey designed to spark interest and further study by the individual hearer.  In this first message, we introduce the four options above and look at three concepts present in Revelation 1 (use of symbolism; the stress on the "at hand"...

Jeremiah 52 wraps up some loose ends in the book, and puts a bow on the whole affair. In doing so, it gives us a great opportunity to examine the major themes we've been confronted with in the last year and a half. Specifically, in Part One, those themes are: 1) Sinners Don't REALLY Want to Hear from God (Including sinners in church.) 2) We are plagued with shepherds who put the sheep on the BBQ 3) The Solution to wicked rulers is NOT to just go find better people and put them in power. The word of the Lord comes to Jeremiah through a pagan soldier, the fruit of both his and Daniel's ministry. Jeremiah is given great freedom, being rescued from the deportation. We meet with Gedaliah. We won't know him long, and it goes badly for him, but the one ethical/judicial decision we see him make is a righteous one. In this, we discern the roots of the legal philosophy of "innocent until proven guilty."

We took a break from Jeremiah to get an overview of Genesis. But this is not a simple overview in terms of what the book says. This is a covenantal overview, utilizing the 5 points of the Biblical Covenant as a framework. It shouldn't be shocking to find that the first book of the Bible is chock full of covenant stuff, stuff that informs the whole rest of the Scripture, and the covenant relationship we have with God in Christ.
